New Event Co-ordinators for DGS

February 25th, 2011 No comments

Two members have come on board to help with the organisation of events for The Disabled Golf Society. Graeme Robertson will be the event co-ordinator nationally and ‘Tucker Chance’, who is well known throughout the disabled golfing world, will co-ordinate North West Events.

Graeme Robertson – DGS National Event Co-ordinator

Graeme RobertsonGraeme became a member of the Disabled Golf Society soon after it was established. An avid sports man, especially golf, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis about 12 years ago, at the age 35. About a year ago a chance conversation with a physio, who dealt with Paralympians, put Graeme in contact with WAMSAD (Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead District Sports Association for the Disabled). They suggested he go along to a golf tournament that was being organised by the recently formed Disabled Golf Society and ever since then, Graeme has helped with the organisation of events during the past year. His experience in council run sports development programmes for physical and mental disabilities, has helped others enjoy the freedom and focus in life that comes from playing golf. He was recently awarded a Sports Personality of the Year Disabled award.

Tucker Chance – DGS North West Event Co-ordinator

Tucker ChanceTucker Chance’s involvement in disabled golf grew out of a passionate interest from an early age. Polio in childhood left him with similar disabilities to an SCI walker. His friend and coach, John Smith, encouraged him to take up golf in 1995, after which he became involved with the Handigolf Foundation for seated golfers throughout the UK and Europe. Using a specially designed buggy, Tucker Chance has achieved notable success including the British Championship, the Lincolnshire Open for Seat Golfers, finishing first in the 2001 Handigolf Order of Merit and the British Masters.

His success and the encouragement he gives to others will no doubt help the aims of the Disabled Golf Society by promoting disabled golf to a wider audience.
