DGS North East – Bedlington Golf Club Nr Newcastle
Four members in the NE attended Bedlington GC, near Newcastle, on Fri 6th July. Despite the heavy downpour earlier, the course and the greens in particular were in absolutely superb condition. There was some standing water on a few holes and the ball was not travelling as far as a consequence. We managed to escape the rain although 30 minutes after we finished our round, the heavens opened. The four of us had a super day and Bedlington very much wish to hold a full DGS event in 2013. As the home course of John Irvine, he can guarantee we will get a warm reception. Results on the day were: 1st Matt Mahoney (30) – 35 points, 2nd John Irvine (25) – 34 points, 3rd Neil Joyce (25) – 32 points, 4th Gary Cooper (21) – 26 points. Closest to the pin was won by Neil Joyce on the 6th (174 yards). Given the conditions and the fact Bedlington is a very long course 6630 yards off the yellows, for Matt to score 35 points on his 1st visit was superb.
