new_malton_03.jpgThe Disabled Golf Society (DGS was back at New Malton Golf Club on Thursday 18th August 2011 to attract new members and generate awareness that disabled people can enjoy and play golf . This was part of the club’s ‘Festival of Golf Week’ Despite a weather forecast of wet weather, there was a good turn out and after tuition from DGS pro David Llewellyn/Resident pro Brian Mudge at the driving range, we set off for the first tee. After a couple of hours of dry weather, the heavy rain duly arrived, but did not dampen the players enthusiasm. The  course was, as always, in fantastic condition, and really interesting to play on.

Members travelled from far afield and many different physical abilities. New members included  Adam Bailey (Herts), Keith Pickering (Suffolk), Sean Davies(Herts) and Dave Wescombe and Lucy Morris (both from Cambs) Regular members travelled from Northants, Leics, Berkshire,  Surrey and as far Yorkshire and North Wales.

The winner of the 9 hole Stableford competition was Richard Aisthorpe from Sheffield with 19 points, second was Keith Pickering (17 ) and third was Jacki Witt from Berks (16). The 18 hole competition was won by Lorraine White from Surrey with 41 points, with Sean Davies from Herts 2nd (38) and Tucker Chance fron North Wales 3rd (35)

About New Malton Golf Club

New Malton Golf Cub is set amongst 230 acres of peaceful Cambridgeshire countryside, yet only 8 miles from Cambridge city centre. Originally designed in consultation with Bruce Critchley, former Walker Cup Player and BBC commentator, New Malton Golf Club 18 hole golf course slopes softly down towards and beyond the picturesque River Cam.

Opened in 1994, the 6708 yards par 72 gently undulating course provides a stiff test for the seasoned golfer, from the back tees, whilst still posing an interesting challenge for golfers of all abilities, from the forward tees. Constructed to USGA specifications, together with extensive drainage and irrigations off all fairways, the course provides excellent playing conditions throughout the year. New Malton’s signature hole is the par3 14th, a daunting shot through trees and over a stream that diagonally fronts the green. With it’s continued programme of development, New Malton Golf Club has had an amazing 30,000 players plus visiting since its opening.
