The first Disabled Golf Society event in Hampshire to attract new members and generate awareness that disabled people can enjoy and play golf was held at East Horton Golf Centre on Tuesday 14th June 2011. After a weekend of heavy rain there were concerns about the weather, but  it was bright ,sunny and very warm. After some expert tuition with DGS Pro, David llewellyn, the players headed to the 1st tee.

The course was excellent, challenging but fair, in immaculate condition. It was great to see familiar faces, but also good to see members like Dave Thompson, Paul Baker and Stan Bembenek playing in their first event.  The 9 hole Stableford competition was won by Dave Thompson, from Bournemouth (19 points), with Keith Dolman, Essex (19 points, lost on countback) 2nd and Stan Bembenek, Berks (18). Competitors travelled from all over the country from Hampshire, Berkshire, Essex, Oxfordshire  and London . There were people attending who were amputees, had arthritis, and MS; everyone had a great day.

Special thanks to all at East Horton especially pro Myles, Lucy, Gemma and Grace and all the staff and members for their help and patience
