Our first DGS event in Kent to attract new members and generate awareness that disabled people can enjoy and play golf was held at West Malling Golf Club on Tuesday 21st July 2011. It is good to see regular familar faces at DGS events, but it is great to welcome new members. The weather forecast predicted rain, but it never materialized.
David Llewyllyn was on hand at the driving range and course with expert advice. The course was very challenging and in immaculate condition. Members travelled from far afield, but also in attendance was Tommy Sampson(ex non-league manager/ Millwall footballer) and other members of the Stroke Association in Maidstone and 2 new members Mark Walters from Folkestone and Mark Stewart from Hythe in Kent. The winner of the 9 hole stableford competition was Mark Walters from Folkestone with 21 points, 2nd was Paul Cuningham from South London (20 points) and 3rd was Lorraine White from Surrey (17 points). Everyone had a great day.
Stroke survivor Tommy Sampson said ‘I can only congratulate the organizers on a job well done and to Mr Llewellyn my eternal gratitude for his time and patience As i strive to recover my previous good health it will be days like these that will spur me on God bless you all and good golfing!!!’
Thanks to Lara Wood, Sally and all the staff and members of Wedt Malling Golf Club for all their help and patience.
About West Malling Golf Club
With two excellent par 70 courses, both over 6,000 yards off the medal tees and aptly named SPITFIRE and HURRICANE after the famed wartime machines that dominated the skies over Kent, visitors will find either contribute to an unforgettable day as each offers a fair, but differing challenge, with water features proving an added hazard for safe passage on both courses.
