farrington_12.jpgOur first Disabled Golf Society (DGS) event in Somerset to attract new members and generate awareness that disabled people can enjoy and play golf was held at Farrington  Golf Club on Monday 15th August 2011. It was a dry day, rare in summer 2011, and after tuition from The Vale/ DGS resident pro David Llewellyn at the driving range, we set off for the first tee. The course was in fantastic condition, and really interesting to play on. Members travelled from far afield and many different physical abilities. New members included  Steve Cocks from Bristol and John Heal(MS) from Trowbridge, Regular members travelled from South Wales, Berkshire,  Surrey, Oxfordshire,  Gloucestershire and as far as West Yorkshire.

The winner of the 9 hole Stableford competition was amputee Keith Wallace from Chepstow with 20 points, second was Kevin Booth from Huddersfield (14 ) and third was Steve Cocks from Bristol (11). The 18 hole competition was won by Nicki Jones from Brecon with 33 points and he also won at bottle of Champagne for closest to the pin at the short 5th hole.

Thanks to John Cowgill and all the staff and members of Farrington Golf Club for their help and patience on the day.

About Farrington Golf & Country Club

Farrington Golf course is situated in 200 acres of rolling Somerset countryside, the former Duchy of Cornwall land has been turned into 27 holes of exciting and challenging golf. With stunning views and tranquil location, the courses offer an enjoyable and relaxing experience for all golfers.

The Par 72 Duchy Course was opened in 1995 and has matured into a beautifully conditioned variety of parkland and lake land golf holes. The course measures 6600 yards with undulating U.S.G.A. specification greens that will test even the best putters. With excellent drainage golfers of all abilities throughout the year can enjoy the course.

The Par 27 Manor Course is a great place to use all the clubs in the bag. With holes varying from 80 yards to 240 yards this is definitely no pitch and putt. With the greens the same specification as the Duchy Course and plenty of bunkers lurking, all golfers will enjoy this hidden gem.
