The BIL Group South West Disabled Open took place at Cumberwell Park Golf Club on Tuesday 5th July 2011. The rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm. The course was excellent, challenging but fair, in immaculate condition. It was good to see familiar faces, but also welcome a couple of newcomers Jonathon Harrington from Wales and local MS Society Treasurer John Heal from Trowbidge and we hope to see them again at future events.
It was also a pleasure to welcome Ali Vowles from BBC South West (DGS was featured on BBC Points West) and to Ian Longdon of BBC Radio Wiltshire (DGS was featured on the Breakfast Show 0n Tuesday and Wednesday). Please note these will be only available to listen within the next 7 days.
The competitors travelled from as far afield as Yorkshire, Essex and South Wales, but the winner of the 9 hole event was Dave Wilkinson from Oxfordshire (21 stableford points), Keith Wallace from South Wales was second and Lorraine White from Surrey third.
A special thank you to the BIL Group for their support of the event and thanks to Ali James and all the staff at Cumberwell Park.
About Cumberwell Park Golf Club
Cumberwell Park is Wiltshire’s only 36-hole golf course with clubhouse being the starting point for all four 9 hole courses. Opening in 1994 its elegant and tranquil setting, provides the ideal location for an enjoyable golfing experience.
The 36-hole course designed by Adrian Stiff, provides different challenges for golfers of all ability. The course encompasses a wonderful blend of rolling countryside, lakes, streams, natural copse and woodland. The natural contours of the landscape have shaped the design of the course, which covers 400 acres. Nine lakes, thirty-four acres of woodland and free flowing streams, further enhance the beauty and interest of the course.
