West Midlands – Coventry, Stoneleigh Deer Park

Stoneleigh Deer park Golf Club
Coventry Road, Stoneleigh,
Warwickshire CV8 3DR

Wednesday 8 June 2011

Our first DGS event in the Midlands to attract new members and generate awareness that disabled people can enjoy and play golf was held at Stoneleigh Deer Park near Coventry on Wednesday 8th June 2011. The event in the Midlands gave the opportunity for members in the north and south to meet up for the first time.

The weather was dry and bright, at first, but heavy showers threatened to spoil the day but the enthusiasm of the players was not dampened. So after some expert tuition with DGS Pro, Keith Williams , the players headed to the 1st tee. The course was excellent, challenging but fair, in immaculate condition and many thanks to Stoneleigh Deer Park(particularly John Reay, Linda Edmondson and all the staff plus all the members for their patience.

Competitors travelled from all over the country from Wigan, North and South Wales, London and the Midlands . There were people attending who were amputees, had polio, arthritis, and MS; everyone had a great day.

About Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club offers a warm welcome to golfers and non-golfers alike. It is set in deepest Warwickshire between the ancient towns of Warwick, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Coventry, and as its name implies, is an old deer park consisting of 225 acres with the beautiful River Avon running through its centre creating a natural golfing hazard on some of its holes.

The challenging 18 hole Tantara golf course measures 6056 yards in length with a par of 71 and offers a varied landscape with its many ancient oak and sweet chestnut trees, some reputed to be 300 years old and the oldest in Europe. The 9 hole par 3 Avon course measuring 1251 yards is set in the centre of the Tantara course, challenging those players wishing to hone their short iron play. This also suits the less experienced player and is the ideal place for those who wish to learn.
