Even though this was not an official Disabled Golf event it was supported by 9 members, in fact had it not been advertised so close to Xmas there would have been a lot more takers for this golf break just before the season starts.

Sandilands  is an 18 hole links course where golf has been played for over one hundred years. The golf course stretches along a sandy strip of the Lincolnshire coastline, between the seaside towns of Mablethorpe and Skegness. There is a very relaxing pace of life at Sandilands and the surrounding Lincolnshire Wolds, but be warned, the greens are quick! The Sandilands Golf Club is owned by the Grange and Links Hotel, which is just a minute’s drive away. The hotel is renowned for its very friendly atmosphere and excellent cuisine.

The weather was cold on all 3 days but without rain and very little wind that helped in some really good golf being played. It was decided before a ball was hit that the overall result would be the best 2 rounds out of 3 to count but we would have a winner each day too. Brian Parsons had donated a really old golf club that he bought at a car boot sale, he mounted it into a case after discussion all those attending we decided it be known as the “Sandilands Disabled Golf Open” to be left at Sandilands from year to year. One member who shall remain nameless wanted the trophy to be called “The Sandilands Swingers” however for obvious reasons we decided against this as entries would not be for golf but you know what!!!!!!!!!!

On day 1 Dave Cooksley Snr won the day with 39pts just in front of Dave Jnr with 38pts, Andy Greenhill was 3rd with 36pts. On day 2 there were 3 players with 39pts Andy Greenhill winning on count back from Dave Cooksley Jnr and Kevin Booth. It was all to play for on day 3, Kevin Booth and Dave Cooksley Jnr both scored 39pts with Dave Snr, 36pts this left Dave Jnr as overall winner with 78pts. However after a query with the locals over a local rule Dave Jnr had to alter his card by 3pts leaving the overall winner Kevin Booth with 78pts, Dave Snr had 78pts and Andy Greenhill had 77pts.

The golf was absolutely brilliant both in playing and the condition of the course thanks must go to the green keeper and staff of Sandilands as we were really well looked after from start to finish. BUT!!!!!!!!! The pinnacle of the stay was the food at the hotel, we had 2 three course meals that surpassed anything we expected, the breakfasts were also of superb quality. The staff at the hotel helped in any way they could and also joined in the banter we all had over our meals which made an entertaining evening for all.

While we were there we have already booked for 2013 the dates are 12th , 13th and 14th March the cost will be £160 per person. We will be limited to 24 players so it will be on a first come first served basis. To reserve a spot a deposit of £25 per person will be required, cheques made out to Grange & Links Hotel . I know its 12 months away but please book early to secure your spot. Not all rooms are disabled friendly but if you can manage 1 flight of stairs they are comfortable and clean. There are 3 rooms downstairs outside that are fully disabled friendly, priority for these rooms will be given to those with the most need. I am sure that the members that attended will let everyone else know how good these 3 days were.
